With the abundance of skin care products on the market, it would seem that perfect skin is only a bottle or cream away. Many products promise results in a matter of weeks with amazing before and after pictures of clients that have used the products. However most of the products on the market only serve to treat skin on the surface. Many skin problems lie much deeper. Thus you should aim for holistic skin care rather than using skin care products that do nothing more than treat superficial skin problems.

Ageing Too Fast

One very traumatic skin problem can be premature aging of the skin as no one wants to get wrinkles before it’s their time. Those of us who get a few lines a little earlier than we expected may blame it on genes or the side effects of a hectic lifestyle. With a holistic skin care regime on the other hand it is possible to counter and prevent the signs of premature ageing.

A major culprit that contributes to premature aging and aging in general is the sun. The suns harmful rays can cause the skin to inflame and get damaged. A simple way of combating skin damage is to apply a moisturiser with some SPF protection. Wearing a hat when you are exercising outdoors or performing any other outdoor activities such as gardening is also a simple step to protecting your skin.

Start from the Inside Out

Holistic skin care would not be holistic if it did not cover every aspect of your body. A change in diet is highly effective in countering skin problems. Increasing antioxidants in your diet is a good way to play down the damaging external forces such as pollution that affect our skin. Vitamins such as vitamin C and E are rich in antioxidants that combat free radicals that we are inadvertently exposed to in day-to-day life. Turning to organic foods when possible is also another way to avoid free radicals.


Skin care the holistic way also includes lifestyle changes. Sleeping eight hours a day for instance can work wonders for your skin, it’s amazing what a few extra hours of sleep will do for you. If you smoke, then it’s time to cut it out if you are serious about a holistic approach to skin care. As holistic skin care is all about going natural, it stands to reason that this approach advocates getting rid of anything synthetic. Check the labels on your beauty products and throw out anything with synthetic chemicals. These simple steps could save you a bundle and make you look younger too.
