African American skin disorder
Any type of skin condition can happen regardless of the pigment of skin an individual have is a fact. On the issue of African American skin care and others with darker complexions however, there are a few skin care problems that are much more prevalent. Following are some of the most common African American skin care issues…
Acne:
A chronic disorder which is characterized by excess production of oil from sebaceous glands causing the hair follicles generally on the face, chest and back to become plugged is termed as acne. Pimples, papules, pustules and infected abscesses can be treated in acne. Acne may result in long lasting discolorations of the skin in case of African American skin care.
Ingrown Hairs of the Beard:
Ingrown Hairs is one more African American skin care issue. They have curved hair shafts and this is true of beard hair as well as other body hair. This disease is also called razor bumps. Hair removal chemicals should only be used once a week though they remove hair. They can cause irritation. Dermatologist should be primarily consulted about treatment options.
Variations in Skin Color:
African American skin has large number of cells that determine skin color called melanosomes, which contain more of the pigment melanin than those found in white skin. Post inflammatory hyper pigmentation is quite common in African American individuals, even after minor trauma. Dark areas of skin might take many months or years to fade, although topical (surface) bleaching agents may help.
Vitiligo:
Vitiligo is one more common African American skin care condition where pigment cells are destroyed. Irregular white patches on the skin also appear due to this. Dermatologists think that the cause of this common disorder is because of the cells of the body attack the pigment producing cells. Some of the patients with vitiligo do not regain skin color.
Keloids:
Keloids are the scar from a cut or wound when extends and spreads beyond the size of the original wound. They might vary in size, shape, and location. Keloids occur more often in brown or black skin and are very common African American skin care issue.
